Hohensalzburg Fortress

It is the city’s landmark – and much more than just a beautiful viewpoint. The largest fully preserved castle in Central Europe towers over the old town and can be reached on foot or by Austria’s oldest funicular railway. Inside, you will find magnificent princely rooms, museums and fascinating insights into over 900 years of city history.

Salzburg State Theatre

Opera, theatre, musical or ballet: the Salzburg State Theatre holds around 400 performances per season and is one of the most renowned stages in the country. Great stories, modern productions – and all just a short walk from the old town.

Marionette Theatre

A place of quiet magic – and not just for children. The artfully crafted marionettes on stage are a UNESCO World Heritage. Classics, fairy tales and operas are performed – rich in detail, surprising and full of charm.

Palace concerts

A baroque setting meets musical delights: the concerts in the Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace are a treat for the eyes and ears – just a short walk from the old town centre. We will be happy to help with tickets or tips what to see.

Salzburg Festival

Every summer, Salzburg becomes a world stage. From mid-July to the end of August, international stars from the worlds of theatre, opera and music gather here to perform on the city’s most beautiful stages.

How to get to Salzburg city  

By S-Bahn to Salzburg

  • Approximately 7 minutes' walk to Hallein station
  • Direct connection to Salzburg main station (journey time approx. 20 minutes). Trains run regularly.

By bus to Salzburg

  • Stop ‘Hallein Stadtbrücke’
  • Line 170 goes directly to Salzburg (e.g. Mirabellplatz or main station)
  • Travel time approx. 30 to 40 minutes

And the best part? With the Guest Mobility Card, you can use public transport free of charge.

Getting to Salzburg by car

  • Take the B159 or A10 motorway and you will reach the city centre in approx. 20 minutes
  • Parking is available in the Altstadtgarage car park or at Mirabellplatz, for example
  • Tip: Park at the Park & Ride Salzburg Süd and take the trolleybus to the city centre (approx. 15 minutes)
