Location & Directions

Our boutique hotel, the salt townhouse, and two apartment buildings, the salt residences & vis à vis, are located in the heart of Hallein’s old town – nestled between the city and nature, culture and mountains – and only a few minutes’ walk from each other. Easy to reach by car, train, plane, bicycle – and also conveniently by public transport.

Hallein has the perfect location.

Look forward to plenty of city flair, idyllic lakes or mountain adventures:

  • 20 minutes to Salzburg city centre
  • 25 minutes to the famous Lake Königssee in Berchtesgadener Land
  • 40 minutes to the Salzkammergut region (Lake Fuschl, Lake Wolfgang)
  • 40 minutes to the Dachstein West ski area or Werfenweng

Getting here by car

Hallein is easy to reach via the Tauern motorway A10 (exit Hallein). Or you can take the scenic route via A-roads and state roads. Please note that we do not have our own hotel car park, but don't worry: there are paid public car parks and garages very close by.

  • All of Hallein is a blue short-stay parking zone: 90 minutes with a parking ticket (weekdays 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturdays from 12 noon and free on Sundays and public holidays).
  • Two short-stay parking spaces are available at the apartments for loading and unloading, and there is a loading zone at the hotel.

Getting here by public transport

Hallein is conveniently connected to the public transport network (bus and train). Hallein train station is approximately a 7–10 minute walk from our properties.

  • Connections to long-distance trains (e.g. Railjet, IC) and the Salzburg S-Bahn commuter train.
  • Bus line 170 runs directly and regularly to and from Salzburg Central Station (nearest stop: Hallein Stadtbrücke).
  • Guest Mobility Ticket: Free use of all public transport operated by the Salzburger Verkehrsverbund (Salzburg Transport Association, SVV) throughout the Province of Salzburg – including buses, trains and the S-Bahn.

  • Green bonus: If you arrive by train, you will receive a 5% discount on your stay – please be ready to show us your train ticket.

Getting here by bike

Hallein is located directly on the Tauern Cycle Trail, which runs from Krimml in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg to the three-river city of Passau in Bavaria, Germany. This makes the salt the perfect place for a stopover. Benefit from:

Getting here by plane

Hallein is easily accessible from Salzburg’s ‘Wolfgang Amadeus’ Airport. There are various options for continuing your journey – whether by taxi, rental car or public transport. 
 

Salzburg Airport ‘Wolfgang Amadeus’ (SZG)

  • Travel time by car: 20 minutes
  • Taxi costs approx. €60 (prices subject to change)
  • Public transport: Take bus no. 10 to the ‘Rathaus’ stop in Salzburg. Change to bus no. 170 to Hallein Stadtbrücke

Munich Airport (MUC)

  • Travel time by car: 2–2.5 hours
Can I book a transfer from the airport or train station in advance? 

Are you travelling with a lot of luggage or looking for a convenient transfer from Salzburg Airport or the train station? No problem:

  • We will be happy to arrange a taxi or shuttle for you on request – whether from the airport, train station or for day trips.

Is there a bike rental service or other transport options available locally?

Yes, there are several options on-site: During warmer months, you can hire bicycles or e-bikes from Hallein Tourism for excursions – ideal for leisurely rides along the Salzach River or more challenging tours in the nearby mountains.

 

We can also help you organise taxi or shuttle services for excursions, airport transfers or individual trips on public transport: with the Guest Mobility Ticket, you can use buses, trains and S-Bahn trains throughout the State of Salzburg free of charge – and it’s even valid on the day of you arrive.

Can I hire a car locally?

If you want to be flexible during your stay, you can hire a car directly at Salzburg Airport (SZG). There are numerous car rental companies such as Sixt, Europcar, Avis, Hertz, etc.

  • We recommend reserving your rental car online in advance.
  • Alternatively, we are happy to help you book a taxi or shuttle, or help plan your journey by public transport.
Is there a lockable garage for my bike etc.?

Each of our buildings has a lockable bike storage room. Free charging facilities for your e-bike are also available.

Are there any public electric charging stations nearby?

There are public electric charging stations in the immediate vicinity or at the 'Pernerinsel' car park and 'Altstadt Hallein' parking garage.
